Stefan Maierhofer today expressed delight at achieving his footballing "dream" - a move to the Barclays Premier League just five years after turning professional.
And the 27-year-old striker, who has signed a three-year-contract after joining Wolves from Rapid Vienna, admits that the blow of missing European football after helping the Austrian side into the Europa League group stages is more than softened by the prospect of life in England's top flight.
Having initially trained as a chef, Stefan came into senior football in 2004 and having boasted an excellent scoring record with Bayern Munich's reserve side and then more recently Rapid Vienna is now ready to set his sights on the Premier League.
"I am delighted to have joined Wolves and this is something of a dream for me," he said.
"I've only been a professional footballer for five years and now here I am going into the Premier League. "Playing in the Premier League is the ambition of a tot of players in Europe, it really is the league to play in. "I flew in yesterday for talks and the medical and everyone I met just seemed really cool and welcoming. "There was a good feel about the whole place.
"I had a good chat with the manager and am really looking forward to working with him and the other backroom staff. "I am keen to improve my game and I think that being here at Wolves is going to make me better and better. "At the same time I hope I can score a few goals and help the club stay in the Premier League."
Stefan played a major part in Rapid Vienna's march through the qualifying rounds of the Europa League and came off the bench - in front of watching Wolves boss Mick McCarthy - as his team secured the result at Villa Park last Thursday which took them through to the group stages.
High profile games with Celtic, Hamburg and Hapoel Tel Aviv would have been on the agenda should he have stayed in Austria, and while delighted to see his former team involved admits he's equally as happy to be upping sticks to England.
He added: "We had some great wins at Rapid Vienna to get through the qualifying wins and then to put Aston Villa out last week was incredible.
"It's great for the club to get through to the group stages and they will all be big games.
"But while I'm leaving to come to Wolves I think in the Premier League every game is like that - every game is such a massive occasion whoever it is against.
"I may be missing out on Europe but instead I'm looking forward to a great experience in England and trying to help Wolves."
What then can Wolves expct from the 6ft 8in frontman who has far more to his game than just an aerial threat? "I'm a player who gives his all every game," Stefan replies.
"I'd like to think I can cause some problems in the Premier League and that I can get my team-mates going and get the fans going as well.
"I give 100 per cent every game and am confident I will be able to chip in with some goals as well."
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is delighted to have made Stefan his ninth summer signing of an extremely busy summer.
"Stefan is a player we have been watching for a while and myself and Terry (Connor) went to see him at Aston Villa last week," Mick added.
"I'm delighted we have managed to do the deal because he is a good addition to the squad. "He brings in many different qualities but in particular he is very mobile and he scores goals.
"If you look back at his recent record he's always been in and among the goals and he scored one in his last appearance for Rapid Vienna in their local derby on Sunday.
"The fact that he is also sacrificing European football to come and play here shows just how ambitious he is to succeed in the Premier League - I'm looking forward to working with him."
Stefan is the latest Austrian to hit the Premier League following the success of Paul Scharner at Wigan and Emanuel Pogatetz at Middlesbrough.
He is now off an international duty with Austria, after which he can contemplate trying to establish himself in the top division.
"I've got these two international games and I return from Romania a week an Thursday," he added. "Then it's training an the Friday when I will meet all the lads before the game at Blackburn. "I can't wait to get going."
